A sneak peek at the cartoons I’m painting of the presidents for our video series: Real Policy Differences – examining the shifts in parties and key policy debates that shaped politics from the presidential election of 1800 to the elections of today. Our first two installments explore the First Party System from 1800-1824.
Below are all the presidents (with the exception of George Washington) elected under the First Party System and the Second Party System (1800-1854)
- John Adams: 2nd President of the United States
- Thomas Jefferson: 3rd President of the United States
- James Madison: 4th President of the United States
- James Monroe: 5th President of the United States
- John Quincy Adams: 6th President of the United States
- Andrew Jackson: 7th President of the United States
- Martin Van Buren: 8th President of the United States
- William Henry Harrison: 9th President of the United States – died 32 days into his term
- John Tyler: 10th President of the United States – first Vice president to become President when the sitting president died, or president “by accident”
- James K. Polk: 11th President of the United States
- Zachary Taylor: 12th President of the United States – died 16 months into his term
- Millard Fillmore: Unlucky 13th President of the United States – ascended from Vice president to President when Zachary Taylor died
- Franklin Pierce: 14th President of the United States
